The year is 1943 and the busiest railroad corridor in the nation is being strained to its limit with extra traffic! The tracks of the New Haven Railroad between New York and New Haven normally have the heaviest traffic in the US. The war has added to this with troop trains and extra freights and heavy passenger traffic from gasoline rationing.
New Haven Dispatcher is a simulation of this corridor and this time. It contains every regularly scheduled passenger and freight train for November 1943. Second sections, troop trains, extra freights, POTUS, and a Wire Train are added to complicate operations. That's over 400 daily trains!!! Add in disasters caused by overworked equipment and there are a lot of problems to solve to keep things moving and on time.
You, as the dispatcher, must schedule the extra freights, and troop trains, maneuver the trains on the tracks to avoid delays, and ensure that there are enough engines available in the right locations. The simulation can be run for a day or a week or up to six months as you choose.
This is the most realistic railroad simulation you will find! The passenger trains are running and switching tracks using the real Employee Timetable from November 1943. The scheduled freights come from New Haven freight schedules of that time. The locomotive engines all existed at the time and their performance in the simulation is close to real life. The track distances and layout are all extremely close to what exists. The graphics may not be as slick as other simulations, but you won't find another one with this level of realism!
For those who may have tried the earlier versions, this one is loaded with new features!
The Model Board shows the location of all the trains and stations.
Information about each train is readily seen by just moving the cursor over it.
Here is typical information when your cursor is over a station that originates trains.
The engine availability is critical information.
This is a specification card for one of the engine classes used in the simulation.
All of the engine classes are real and were available and used in 1943.
This is a typical train order to start an extra Troop train.
The layout and look of the New Haven Railroad Form 19 is identical to the real thing.
The Teletype passes on important information from headquarters and other locations concerning train status.
By selecting a train by clicking on it, you can readily see its complete status and schedule.
Full Employee Timetables can be seen at the push of a button.

I grew up with the New Haven Railroad in the 1960’s when I lived in Connecticut. I have been a member of the New Haven Railroad Historical and Technical Association for many years. I moved to California in 1972, became a software engineer, and retired in 2018. I decided to turn my obsession with the New Haven into a simulation program and this is the result. I hope you enjoy it!
